Planning your wedding can be a time of great excitement, but those moments of pure joy can sometimes carry with them a wealth of overwhelm. From venues to professionals, styles to colors, there are options upon options for every decision you will make about your celebration. And, stationery is definitely in the mix!
Because your wedding stationery research will likely begin online, you will without a doubt stumble upon online companies who can design your wedding invitations for you. As wonderful as those companies are (truly – there are many beautiful designs online that are perfect for weddings of any budget), I urge you to explore further and learn more about wedding stationery designers.
My work as a stationery designer allows me to team up with couples near and far to craft their wedding story through paper. It’s an honor and a joy to do this work. Together, we decide how to best tell their story. Sometimes that leads us to semi-custom save the dates or wedding invitations, and other times we have inspiration and ideas so unique and fun that custom is the only way to go.
The best way to learn about my process as a custom wedding stationery designer is to contact me, but I thought I would shed more light below. My top five reasons why I hope you will consider working with a stationery designer are below, and I encourage you to take a peek!
1. Your wedding stationery will be yours.
Whether we design a semi-custom wedding invitation suite or a completely custom design, your wedding invitation will be yours and yours alone. We’ll start by discussing your inspiration, and I’ll show you many suites from past weddings I’ve designed. Then, we’ll narrow in on exactly what makes you excited to send your suite in the mail! Sometimes couples love an existing suite but wish to make a few edits to match their style or color palette. Other times, we find a custom suite is the best way to maximize a pair’s style and budget. Working with a stationery designer allows you to create stationery for your wedding day rather than having to fit your soiree into a predesigned box.
2. Your wedding stationery will match your event.
Not only will your wedding stationery be unique to you as a couple, but I always take your wedding venue’s style into consideration. Although I work with couples throughout the country, I design many suites for couples getting married in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas. Not only can I advise you on specific printing and design techniques to achieve a particular look, but I can also make suggestions based on specific venues in the area.
3. I can design additional pieces.
From the moment you say, “yes!”, we can start working together to design stationery for every event surrounding your wedding. That means you can begin to tell the story of your relationship with invitations to your engagement party, for example. I can also create save the dates, invitations for bridal showers and bachelorette parties, as well as welcome bags, programs, custom signage, escort card displays, seating charts, place cards, menus, table numbers, favor tags, and so much more. Every single piece will be inspired by the one that came before it, which means your stationery story will be curated and cohesive – two hallmarks of standout design!
4. I handle all of the details for you.
As a trained graphic designer and stationery designer with years of experience, I understand the ins and outs of font styles, and we can also have a lengthy conversation about printing techniques. I’ve worked with every type of budget, so I can also explain why digital printing may work better for your budget than letterpress, for example. I also know the best printers, how to source superior supplies, and how to create stationery using unique materials (hello, wood and acrylic!). I keep your stationery timeline in check, work closely with the printer, and advise you every step of the way, including the best ways to mail your stationery (and how to do it!). The best part: when you work with a designer, we can communicate directly the entire time!
5. Stationery is what I do.
The wedding industry is wonderful because it’s filled with entrepreneurs who are so driven and skilled creatively. Sometimes business owners opt to diversify their offerings by creating packages that include more than one service. While that business model may work for some, I’ve found I excel most when I focus on one area of the industry. And, that’s stationery. I only offer wedding stationery design to couples and families because I’ve found it’s best to do one thing and do it really well. However, I do have a full roster of professionals I love to recommend for other services!
