I have a fascination with wedding venues. I love that they host couples and their guests for what I always hope will be a memorable, fabulous celebration; I love how they allow a couple’s wedding style to come alive; I love knowing a couple’s story will be etched inside the walls; and I love when a venue is so beautiful you can’t imagine such a place even exists. Everything I just mentioned (and so much more!) describes Bourne Mansion.
Bourne Mansion is an unbelievable mansion located a quick 90 minutes from New York City in Bay Shore, New York on Long Island. But, the mansion is a far cry from the skyscrapers and sleek buildings in the city. Gates open to reveal a tree lined driveway that weaves its way to the mansion where a lawn stretches from The Great Gatsby-esque venue to the ocean just beyond. There are courtyards and ballrooms and incredible interior details. Bourne Mansion is, essentially, a dream space for a stationery designer to find inspiration, and it also served as a dream spot to host a soiree for Lexi and Shawn.
Lexi grew up in Connecticut, Shawn grew up in New York, and they met in college at the University of Delaware. Thanks to their love for art deco and Great Gatsby styles, their venue choice was clear and so was their inspiration for their custom wedding invitation suite. Gold foil, black, and white became our palette of choice in order to bring their luxurious style to life.
Guests were invited to their March 24, 2018 wedding through their black invitation suite, which was layered on top of a pocketfold. The suite included gold foil to enhance the feeling of luxury and elegance, and the fonts felt reminiscent of art deco. In order to enhance the art deco feel even more, the inserts were printed using black ink on white paper to create a slightly mismatched look. All of the suite’s pieces were placed inside the pocketfold, and a gold foil “V” was placed on the outside to greet guests as they removed the invitation from its black envelope complete with white calligraphy.
Between their St. Patrick’s Parish ceremony and their Bourne Mansion reception, I can’t imagine a more beautiful wedding. Lexi and Shawn, thank you for asking me to design your suite. I hope you love it as much as I do!
