What’s the sexiest color palette for your wedding? 50 Shades of Grey, of course! That was the inspiration for this styled shoot, in terms of both color and theme. It was featured on Black Bride, the first online wedding planning resource for brides of color.
Janice Wackens-Adighibe, our event designer, loves the versatility and sensuality of grey. “It shows the presence of dominance and yet is able to be enhanced by the other vibrant colors,” she explained. “The color is a strong yet subtle shade depending on how it is used and that’s how wanted to represent our vision.”
Silver, pewter, charcoal, smoke, mercury–these shades are just a few of the greys we used. My custom wedding invitation design included a lace print and bellyband and a glittery silver bellyband. Fittingly, I tied the whole thing up with black ribbon.
A neutral color scheme is the perfect backdrop for bright florals! Prestigious Petals provided arrangements incorporating blush, fuchsia, lavender, ivory, yellow, purple, mahogany, and green.
A grey palette might seem blah, but mixing textures and patterns goes a long way toward adding visual interest. The key is to balance busier elements with simpler ones, so the details don’t get lost.
This shoot was inspired was by the love story between Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, and I think it ended up being just as thrilling! I couldn’t have done it without a team of awesome vendors. Thanks for letting me be part of such a cool project!
